Residing in Victoria, BC, indie rock artist Layten Kramer returns with their sophomore record, Dear Apathy, a lush follow up to Layten’s acclaimed EP, Glory (2018).
Written and recorded in fragments throughout 2018-2020 from their Victoria, BC home and The Hive Studios on Vancouver Island, Dear Apathy illustrates the genuine growth in Kramer’s unmistakable songwriting and arranging. The 9 songs explore the stark contrast of Kramer’s inner vision with the external perspective and pressures of their surroundings.
“We are living in a strange, mundane world full of apathy which has taken over parts of my life,” says Kramer, “Choosing to recognize this and act on it is what I intended with this record.”
With clever lyrics and stunning arrangements, Kramer’s recognized sound has transcended into a new realm of production and concept. Delicately mixed by JUNO Award-winning producer Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, The New Pornographers, Black Mountain), Dear Apathy features a collective of dear friends including Jen Severtson (Peach Pyramid), Adrian Heim (Bridal Party), Aladean Kheroufi (The Velveteins), Marc Jenkins (Pharis and Jason Romero), Kathryn Calder (The New Pornographers), KT Laine (Pike) and Dougal Bain (Jon and Roy).
